Changes in Publication Fees for Quantitative Economics and Theoretical Economics
The Executive Committee of the Econometric Society has approved an increase in the publication fees for papers in its two Open Access journals, Quantitative Economics and Theoretical Economics.
For all original papers submitted on or after January 1, 2026, for either journal, publication page fees will be set at 100% of the cost of production per page, $24 per page at the present time. Page fees apply only to typeset material. Since supplemental appendices are not typeset, they are not included in the page count for computing the fee.
The publication fee will be collected after final proofs but before publication and invoiced at the then-prevailing rate.
The following discounts also apply:
- Papers by authors who are students at the time of acceptance will be charged 50% of the cost of production per page rather than the full 100%.
- Authors of accepted papers residing in countries classified as either low-income or lower-middle income by the World Bank may request a discount or exemption from the publication fee. The list of those countries can be found at https://datahelpdesk.worldbank.org/knowledgebase/articles/906519.
- Authors of accepted papers who do not have a grant or research account that might cover the publication fee may request a discount or exemption.
In all three cases, all coauthors of the paper must meet the relevant criteria for a discount or exemption to be granted. For cases 2 and 3, the decision regarding a discount or exemption will be made by the Executive Vice President of the Society after consultation with the relevant journal editor.
